Did you know?

  • Our watershed is on private property. Mosaic owns it. Logging puts streams and creeks at risk of redirection and disruption. The increase in debris and soil interferes with critical fish habitat.
  • Our community has first hand knowledge of the destructive force of logs, mud and rocks. The frequency of slides increases 6 to 9 times after slopes have been logged.
  • Our neighbours, the wildlife, have safety, food and room to roam in the undisturbed forests that begin a few steps from our back yards.
  • Our lives have been enriched by the beauty surrounding us. Tourism is a growing industry in the Cowichan Valley, but the huge clearcuts across the lake are visible from west to east as far as the eye can see.

Do you believe large outside corporations should decide the fate of our community?

You and I know better: there is no justification for the loss of our community's natural environment and natural habitat.

The GOOD news is if you answered NO to that question, there is something YOU can do about it!

They won’t be here to cool the local environment in the next heat dome. Nor will they capture and slowly release the incredible amounts of rain…

Good news and bad news

I’ve got good news and bad news: The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for a Coordinator of the region’s Drinking Water and Watershed Protection Program in the Environmental Services Division: “By taking a watercentric view of policy, planning and operational decision making going forward, we can adapt to the realities of a…

Sounds of saws and trees falling

One of our directors heard the sounds of saws and trees falling when she was walking her dogs at Spring Beach. I reached out to Pam Jorgenson at Mosaic and here’s what she said: “I was recently advised that the Crown woodlot licensee (between our property and the Youbou Road) was commencing some work. Your…
